High Observed Brightnesses in Radio Jets

چکیده

We study the variability properties at radio frequencies of the jets thought to be typical of Active Galactic Nuclei, i.e. bulk Lorentz factor Γ ≈10, and incoherent synchrotron emission. We assume that the radiating electrons are accelerated at shocks within the jet, and that these shocks have a suitable (conical) geometry. In our framework, we can reproduce the variability pattern of Intra Day Variables (20% in less than 1 day) as long as the observed brightness temperature is TB < 3 10 17 K. The only stringent condition is an injection timescale of the perturbation shorter than the variability timescale; the geometric condition on the viewing direction is not especially severe, and agrees with the observed occurrence of the phenomenon. For higher values of TB coherent processes are probably necessary. A ug 2 00 7 Discovery of Radio Jets in z ∼ 2 ULIRGs with Deep 9 . 7 μ m Silicate Absorption

Recent Spitzer observations have revealed a substantial population of z∼ 2 ULIRGs with deep silicate absorption (τ9.7> 1). This paper reports a 20cm radio study of such a sample to elucidate their physical nature. We discover that a substantial fraction (40%) of deep silicate absorption ULIRGs at z∼ 2 are moderately radio-loud with L1.4GHz=10 25 – 10WHz. This is in strong contrast with z < ∼ 1 ...

On Multiwavelength Emission and Morphology of Large-Scale Quasar Jets

We propose, that the knots of the large-scale jets in powerful radio sources represent moving and separate portions of the jet matter, with the excess kinetic power. This can explain many morphological properties of quasar jets — like high knot-tointerknot brightness contrasts, frequency-independent knot profiles and almost universal extents of the knot regions — independently of the exact emis...

Relativistic superluminal radio jets in microquasars in our galaxy

We discuss the origin of superluminal radio jets in Black hole X-ray binaries with relativistic radio jets in our Galaxy popularly known as microquasars. We classify the relativistic superluminal jet according to the radio emission in black hole X-ray binaries (transient or persistent) rather than the mass of the companion. The black hole X-ray binaries with transient radio emission (mostly LMX...

Radio Sources in Low - Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei . IV . Radio Luminosity Function , Importance of Jet Power , and Radio Properties of the Complete Palomar Sample

We present the completed results of a high resolution radio imaging survey of all (∼200) low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) and AGNs in the Palomar Spectroscopic Sample of all (∼488) bright northern galaxies. The high incidences of pc-scale radio nuclei, with implied brightness temperatures ∼ 10 7 K, and subparsec jets argue for accreting black holes in ∼50% of all LINERs and low-lu...
